With the unconditional effort from boys, Team Nepal made laudable progress from div. 5 to div. 2 within a short span of time. Pictures of cricket in Nepal could have been seemingly different, if cricket governing body would have been up to the mark with their responsibilities.  Sadly they are not, In fact, they are way behind.
It has been more than two months since Nepal won the Div. 3 trophy and everyone was aware about tough challenges ahead and thus, importance of effective practice for the team. It seems from the various evidences that no one in the board care about these issues. Let’s go deep into the issue; what team needs at the moment, what CAN is doing and what they should have been doing.
Rainy season! Fair enough, where are the alternatives?
Yes, it is fair enough that, this being a rainy season, making ground ready for regular practice is a tough job. There are easy alternatives available in Kathmandu though, it just requires strong willpower. That is exactly what CAN is lacking since ages, a strong willpower for the cricket and cricketers.
In Satdobato, Kathmandu, a hall (made for the different purpose), is easily available. It could be used for the indoor practice after few minor changes. They all knew TU ground could not be used for practice in this part of the year, but still, no one gave a damn for preparing alternatives. What should it be called, carelessness, lack of seriousness or we cannot expect more than this from the board?
Where are nets?
If you happen to travel to TU ground, you will feel very sad with the condition of nets at practice pitches, where national team supposed to practice regularly. And the worst thing is, it has been in the same conditions since moths, yet no improvement, no replacement. And, sources revealed that, not even a discussion on the topic has been held in CAN. A feet tall grass in the practice areas makes the case even worst and makes it clear for all that how much serious CAN is the practice of the players.
Where are bowling machines?
Coach Pubudu Dassanayake as well as the captain time and again, raised the issue of importance of quality bowling machines for the effective practice. It seems like nobody is listening to them. No one have a clue that when CAN is going to buy the same. Early it comes better it will be for the players.
These are few urgently required things for the practice. Actually they should have been readily in place before the close camp. Anyway, with the fund not being big issue, CAN should be able to solve these concerns easily and should address as early as possible. With out effective practice, expecting team to win tournament after tournament would not be fair for the boys.
